Step outside Luxor for the day and explore two of Egypt’s most fascinating and historically rich temple complexes: Abydos and Dendera. Located along the banks of the Nile, these ancient cities hold sacred temples filled with remarkably preserved art, inscriptions, and legends from Egypt’s past.
We'll begin the day by picking you up from your hotel or cruise boat in Luxor, then set off on a journey to Abydos, located about 260 km northeast of the city. Our first stop is the remarkable Temple of Seti I, built in honor of Osiris. This temple is famous not only for its detailed reliefs depicting scenes from the lives of Seti I and Ramses II, but also for the Royal List—a significant inscription featuring the names of 77 Egyptian pharaohs, from Menes to Seti I.
Abydos was once Egypt’s most important religious center and a major site of pilgrimage. Here, you'll see artistic representations of the "Mysteries of Osiris"—a sacred ritual reenacting the death and resurrection of the god Osiris.
After exploring the temple, we’ll enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch before continuing our journey to Dendera.
At Dendera, we’ll visit the impressive Temple of Hathor, goddess of love, music, and joy. Construction of this temple began during the reign of Nectanebo I and continued through the Roman period. Inside, you’ll find two beautifully decorated crypts, two grand halls with column-supported ceilings, and two funerary chapels—one of which was home to the famous "Zodiac of Dendera," now housed in the Louvre.
Before heading back to Luxor, we’ll make a final stop at the Temple of Isis. You’ll return to your hotel or cruise boat between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, after a day filled with history, culture, and unforgettable sights.
This activity includes pickup and drop-off services only for hotels and boats located on the East Bank (right side) of the Nile River in Luxor. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped off at the same location where you were originally picked up.
If your hotel or boat is located on the West Bank (left side) of the Nile, a meeting point on the East Bank will be arranged and confirmed with you in advance.
